• A new party is the only real hope for Scottish supporters of Labour

  IT was good to read “Can Scottish Labour recover their lost soul under a new leader?” from Dennis Canavan (Letters, Sep 22) where, as a former Labour MP himself, he recognised that it was Tony Blair’s “New Labour” that moved Labour from its position as a party of the people to being one that lost its connection with local communities.

• Are SNP paying any attention to work done by other pro-indy groups?

  IT is sad that the SNP hierarchy has refused to permit a debate on how to advance the independence cause at the forthcoming SNP conference. It seems that, with a few tinkerings, the leadership want to continue with the failed, and still failing, methods tried so far.
